Lee Roy Selmon's story combines football scholarship for his family as well as service in the local community. The first is the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. In football, he was with his three brothers in Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. For three seasons as a starter Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Third scholarship he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in the college. Following college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers were the all-pro 3 times, and began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing 256 pounds in college as player, commanded his team throughout 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the assistant director of Athletics at University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by The GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
